The Hindi trailer of Jr NTR starrer Devara is finally out now. While the superstar’s screen presence inevitably shines, the shoddy VFX and the extreme focus on a dark tone of cinematography are not unmissable in the trailer. The movie has been directed by Koratala Siva.
The Hindi trailer of Devara gives a deeper glimpse into Devara’s sense of duty related to his nightmares. He is thrust into a web of crime, betrayals, and a calling for a bigger purpose in his life. In one of the scenes, his ailing mother warns him on her deathbed that he cannot even trust his ‘friends’ presumably hinting at the motives of Saif Ali Khan’s character who plays Bhaira in the movie. We see a hit-and-a-miss glimpse of Janhvi Kapoor’s Thangam in the same who plays Devara’s love interest. The trailer ends on a thrilling cliff-hangerish note, which will pique your interest.
The VFX and the cinematography could have been more nuanced and look extremely monotone and illogical in some parts. Considering that much of the action sequences take place in the sea, it would have done better for Devara for those sequences to look more realistic. A shark scene comes across as comical for all the wrong reasons. On top of that, most of the movie is shot during the night, across as full and damp.
Another major drawback of the Devara trailer is the female protagonist’s screen time. At a time when people are becoming aware of the female lead’s role being reduced to just an exotic and beautiful love interest, it’s a pity that the makers have still not defined Janhvi Kapoor’s significance in the movie. Apart from the romantic songs and the dance numbers, her character does not seem prominent in any scenes.
It will be interesting to see whether the shortcomings of the Jr NTR starrer film’s trailer are prolonged in the movie. We would like to get a better final product. But for now, Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan’s fiery aura is the central saving grace for this one.
